4th Grade: World Peace

What would the world look like if it was peaceful and all people "SOARED"? In fourth grade, students discussed the meaning of "peace" and how it relates to our school culture of  "S-O-A-R" (Safety First, Outstanding Citizen, Accepting Responsibility, and Respecting Others). For their first art project of the year, students were introduced to the concept of mixed-media and were given two objectives for their "World Peace" Project":
1.) Create a world that looks peaceful and is drawn peacefully (craftsmanship).
2.) Think "outside this world".

How creative can your world be?

1st Grade: Walking the Line

Lines are everywhere! First graders learned about the different types of lines that artists use in artwork and how using a variety can make artwork look more interesting. Artists then practiced their painting techniques to paint the space in between the lines with primary colors!

The Crayon Box That Talked

In kindergarten, we read and discussed the book The Crayon Box That Talked by Shane DeRolf before practicing our crayon coloring and scissor cutting procedures. It is such a great introductory lesson for the younger grades to get them in the mindset that they are each special in the art room and we love that each one of us has our own talents! Some of us may like painting more than drawing or reading about art more than talking about it, but our goal in art this year is to be open to trying new and exciting activities! We're growing artists! Kindergarten artists also got to participate in their first art critique; they are starting off very ART SMART

Check out this great video that shares the poem-turned- book! The Crayon Box That Talked Video
